“The Shanghai Pulses Congress” was held at the InterContinental Hotel in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China, from August 20 to 21, 2025. Approximately 200 pulse industry stakeholders from both China and abroad attended the event. A delegation of eight members from the Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association also participated.
The congress was officially opened with keynote speeches by Mr. Vijay Iyengar, Chairman of the Global Pulses Confederation (GPC); Mr. Cao Derong, Chairman of the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce (CFNA); and Mr. Wang Zhenzhong, Chairman of the China National Association of Grain Sector.
During the congress, representatives from China, Myanmar, Russia, Brazil, and the United States presented developments in their respective national pulse sectors. Expert panels also discussed the status of various pulse types such as chickpeas, pigeon peas, dry peas, and beans. Topics covered included:

- Deep Processing of Pea Protein and Market Situation
- The Future is Plant-Based!
- The Role of Platforms, Data & AI in the Next Agri Revolution
These sessions were led by relevant companies and industry experts. On the following day, participants were offered study tours to local factories and workshops.
This congress was jointly organized by CFNA and GPC. It is noted that a similar event—the “Macau Pulses Congress”—was held in Macau in 2024.
