The World Pulses Day 2023 ceremony was held on February 10th in Yangon, the Coriander Leaf restaurant hall, Ahlon Road. It was jointly organized Myanmar Pulses, Beans, Maize and Sesame Seeds Merchants Association (MPBMSMA) India-Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IMCC) and Overseas Agro Traders Association (OATA) Myanmar. The Ambassadors of India and Nepal, Vice President and teams from the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI); members and entrepreneurs from the organizing clubs attended in full.
At the ceremony, MPBMSMA Chairman U Tun Lwin, IMCC Chairman Mr. Naresh Kumar Dinodiya, OATA President Mr. Shyam Narsaria and Indian Ambassador to Myanmar H.E. Mr. Vinay Kumar each gave a speech of honor and memory.
Then, outlook of major pulses are presented by MPBMSMA Secretary U Min Ko Oo and Mr. Anant Chhajed (Swiss Singapore Overseas Ent Pte Ltd) related to mung bean; MPBMSMA Co-Treasurer U Zaw Myo Min and Mr. Sanjay Jain (TATA Intl Singapore Pte Ltd) in relation to chickpeas and MPBMSMA Joint Secretary-3 U Kyaw Win and Mr. Vatsal Lilani (Ever Top Commodities) in relation to pigeon pea.
Then, as a commemoration of the World Pulses Day, a total of 1,000 bags of split chickpeas (5 kg bags) were donated to Priyatti Seminary, the nunnery and charity organizations, before the ending of the ceremony.Since 2019, World Pulses Day celebrations have been held every year in many countries around the world, and the theme of this year’s celebrations is “Pulses for a Sustainable Future”.
