Description
Myanmar is a maize producing and exporting country among 171 maize producing countries in the world. Myanmar has exported 1.19 to 2.22 million MT of maize during last five years. As the demand for maize has been increased annually after the period of 2009, local maize production has been tried to have more year-round production. The harvest period of maize in Myanmar is commencing from August/ September and in full swing during October/ November.
Maize crop are produced regularly in states and regions such as Shan State, Sagaing, Kachin, Kayah and Ayeyarwady. Nowadays quality seeds including hybrid seeds have been used in production. In 201920, Myanmar has exported over 2.22 million MT of maize to Thailand, China, Philippines and India. Of which about 85 percent of the export flow mainly to Thailand and China through border trade.
